What is PinPoint® — how does it work?
Multiple signals, one reliable result.
PinPoint® is an advanced location system that combines several technologies for maximum accuracy. At LAMAX, we never rely on just one source for location. Each measurement collects multiple traces (GPS, Wi-Fi, BTS/LBS, and accelerometer data), and our server intelligently evaluates them. The result is the most likely location — stable, reliable, and battery-friendly.
- GPS — positioning using satellites and GPS coordinates.
- Wi-Fi — positioning using available Wi-Fi networks and their signal strength.
- BTS/LBS mobile operator stations — positioning using mobile operator transmitter stations, their signal strength and triangulation calculations from multiple transmitters.
- A-GPS – assistance technology for faster GPS signal acquisition.
- Accelerometer – motion sensor for recognizing watch movement and greater accuracy.
Proprietary server processing algorithm
Unlike most conventional location systems, which only display the location from a single source, the LAMAX WatchY4 uses an advanced combination of multiple data sources in real time. The server then processes this data using smart algorithms to determine the most likely location of the watch. This allows you to know exactly where your child is. For example, when we have multiple BTS or Wi-Fi points with varying signal strengths, the system itself evaluates which ones are relevant and which ones are less reliable.
Automatic vs. on-request location
Automatic:
Every 9 minutes or 1 hour (depending on the settings), the watch activates the modules, collects data from the surrounding area, and sends it to the server. The algorithm processes it and displays it in the app — both in the current location and in the location history.
Manually on request:
When you click on "Update Location," the watch collects data for up to 60 seconds, so you get the most accurate location even in challenging environments. This location is also saved in the history.
PinPoint® 2.0 — even more accurate and reliable
The new generation of PinPoint® 2.0 takes location tracking to the next level. It is smarter, more accurate, and works better even in areas with weaker signals.
- GPS for location history — the watch now gives priority to GPS even in location history. This gives you a clearer overview of where your child has actually been.
- Turning off GPS location at night (10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) – if the watch is not turned off at night (which we recommend), GPS location is not used during the night when automatic tracking location is turned on, thus saving the watch battery during the night. However, when manually requesting the location between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. with the watch turned on, GPS location works as usual.
- Minimum LBS – this technology is only used when neither GPS nor Wi-Fi is available, which ensures more accurate data.
- Wi-Fi location adjustment – if the Wi-Fi location is not accurate, you can now simply move the pin to the correct location directly in the app.
With PinPoint® 2.0, you always know where your child is, whether they are at school, on the playground, or on a trip.

- Safety zones — set virtual boundaries, such as home or school. The app will immediately notify you when your child leaves or enters the area.
- SOS button — your child can call you immediately in an emergency.
- LAMAX Connect app – easily send voice messages, video calls, and texts, and get an overview of calls and SMS messages to and from the watch.
- FamilyCareConnect® – connects the whole family in one secure chat group.
- FriendsConnect® – allows children to connect with up to 60 friends who also have a LAMAX WatchY4 watch. Safely and without parental intervention.
