FAQ - SAFETY
1) Is the pen safe for children? Can it cause burns?
Yes. Thanks to LAMAX TouchSafe technology, the pen doesn’t heat up like regular 3D pens, so there’s no risk of typical burns. However, it’s important that children don’t touch the tip, which can reach up to 72 °C. It won’t burn the skin, but it may feel uncomfortably warm — a quick “sting” sensation.
After extruding the filament, we recommend waiting a few seconds for it to cool down. For younger children, it’s a good idea to stay nearby during the first attempts and show them how to use it properly.
2) Does the pen have automatic safety features?
Yes, it has several. These automatic safety functions make the pen easier to use and help extend its lifespan.
If you leave the pen unused for a while, it switches to sleep mode, and after longer inactivity it turns off automatically to prevent unnecessary heating and to save battery life.
FAQ - AGE & USE
3) From what age is the pen suitable, and can children use it on their own?
Officially, the pen is recommended from age 8. Younger children may use it only under adult supervision.
It’s similar to drawing on paper — some children are skillful even at a younger age, but it’s important to teach them the basics first: how to hold the pen, how to use it safely, and the correct procedure.
After a few tries, once the child understands simple rules and safety, they can start creating independently.
4) How to ensure safe use at home or at school?
Use a protective mat and keep the cable out of the way. Show children a slower pace of work, similar to drawing.
With younger children, supervision is recommended, especially at the beginning. In schools, simple adult oversight and working in small groups is usually enough.
FAQ - FILAMENTS & CREATIVITY
5) What kind of filaments are used? Are they safe?
Yes. The pen uses low-temperature, non-toxic, certified filaments designed specifically for LAMAX children's 3D pens. They are safe, contain no harmful substances, and regular room ventilation is enough during use.
For proper functioning, we recommend using only original LAMAX filaments. They have the correct composition, density, and melting temperature that match TouchSafe technology and the internal design of the pen.
Why avoid non-original filaments:
- They may have unknown or uncertified chemical composition
- Often melt at higher temperatures
- Can produce unwanted smell or uneven extrusion
- Incorrect density/hardness can cause clogging, overheating, or blocking
- May permanently damage the nozzle or feeding mechanism
6) What can you create with a 3D pen?
Embossed drawings, decorations, lettering, simple 3D models, stands, small accessories, and much more.
Children can also make simple repairs or fill small plastic gaps.
There are countless possibilities — all you need is imagination or the included templates.
7) Where can I find templates and ideas?
On the official LAMAX website you’ll find:
- free downloadable templates
- themed sets
- additional accessories for advanced projects
More ideas can also be found on YouTube, Pinterest, or by printing your own outlines.
8) Does the pen help develop skills?
Yes. It develops:
- fine motor skills
- patience
- spatial imagination
- concentration
Great as a creative tool at home or in school — for art classes or simple STEM projects.
9) Can paper and 3D modelling be combined?
Yes. You can draw or trace an outline on paper, let the filament harden, and then lift the shapes or join them into a 3D model.
It’s an ideal way to start learning.
FAQ - TECHNICAL & COMPATIBILITY
10) How quickly is the pen ready to use?
It heats up within several seconds. Once the indicator light is on and the filament extrudes smoothly, you can start creating.
11) Does the pen have different speeds and temperatures?
Yes. It has 2 speeds and 2 temperature modes:
- slower = ideal for details and beginners
- faster = larger areas and more experienced creators
12) Does it charge via USB-C?
Yes. You can use any standard 5 V charger (ideally 5 V / 2 A) or a computer USB port.
Full charging takes 2–3 hours.
High-power fast chargers are not recommended.
13) How long does the battery last?
Battery life depends on how fast and how intensively you’re working (speed, frequency, pauses).
The pen is designed for typical creative sessions. When the battery starts to weaken, just take a short break and plug it in. Full charging takes about 2–3 hours.
14) Is it suitable for left-handed users?
Yes. The shape and button layout are universal.
15) How quickly are filaments used up?
Small creations require only a few strands of filament, so the starter set lasts for several small projects.
For frequent use, we recommend the LAMAX ArtKid1 3D Filament Set, which includes more colors.
16) How to change the filament correctly?
First let the pen heat up. Then press the filament-release button and gently pull out the remaining filament — don’t use force!
Cut the end of the new filament straight, insert it into the opening, and let the pen pull it in automatically.
This prevents clogging or damage to the mechanism.
17) Do non-original filaments work?
Technically, other low-temperature 1.75 mm filaments may fit, but we do not recommend it.
They may not be certified, can have unknown composition, different melting temperature, density, or hardness, and may not meet safety standards.
They can cause:
- clogging or overheating
- jamming of the feeding mechanism
- nozzle damage
- poor filament flow
- health risks
- lower quality results
- permanent pen damage
For safe, reliable, and long-term use, we strongly recommend original LAMAX ArtKid1 3D filaments.
18) Can finished creations be joined together again?
Yes. Simply apply a bit of fresh filament to the joint and let it harden.
This is useful for repairs, reinforcement, or expanding existing models.
19) What to do if the pen gets clogged?
First check that the pen is charged and turn it on. With original filaments, clogging is rare, but if it happens:
- check battery level
- let the pen heat up
- press the release button — ideally with the tip facing downward and gently tap the pen
- cut the loosened filament straight and insert a new one
Don’t use force (don’t poke the nozzle or pull with pliers).
If the filament doesn’t release, follow the manual or contact customer support.
Prevention: use original filaments, always cut the end straight, and don’t pull extruded filament back inside.
There are fan videos on YouTube with tips, but we do not guarantee their methods — we recommend sticking to our guide.
